Becoming a paralegal is not as hard as you imagine...

Who are potential candidates?

It is really not that hard to become a paralegal, if you are interested in working in the field of law.
Not everyone wants or has the resources to becoming a lawyer. Also a lot of law school graduates didn't pass the bar exams. And some people want to test the water before committing to go through law school. All these people have the potential to be paralegals.

First, find out what paralegal do.

Other than handling basic administrative tasks for entry level paralegals, experienced ones are more involved with helping lawyers investigating and drafting up documents for cases. Each firm or organization requires differently from their employee. It all depends on your skills, experience and expertise.

Second, find out whether you want to commit to complete some forms of studies.

A lot of schools offer paralegal studies which usually lasts 2 years. You can always work part time as you are getting your degree.

And go to paralegal forums, official ABA websites or even career counselors for more information about this profession. Or start at entry level, there you get to see and feel what is really like to be a paralegal. Then decide if it is really for you.

It is the same as for all other professions. You need to research thoroughly to find out the pros and cons and whether you will enjoy or suit for this field of work.
